I’m a firm believer that Jesus loves us so much that he puts people in our lives to love us just as he would. This would be the most accurate way to describe this family. I first met Tony and Heather back in 2007 when I moved to Washington. I was going through some of the most challenging times in my life and even though I had zero to offer them, they made the choice to take me in. They didn’t know me, they had a toddler and 6-month-old baby, full-time jobs, and schooling, I mean, it seriously made no sense for them to add a single mom to their already busy house/lives. But that’s exactly what they did. They open their house and hearts to me and my daughter and loved on us in an irrational way. And what makes this story even better, is they did the exact same thing for my husband, years before I ever came into the picture. When Tim was a teenager, struggling to find his way, they opened their hearts and home to him and showed him that same irrational love.
Whenever I think about this story, my heart feels so full. For over 15 years, this family made choices that would single-handedly impact my life and the life of my husband and kids, and in no way were these choices made to benefit them. To me, that is the gospel: loving and helping people who can do nothing to or for you. Tim and I are better people, parents, and Christians because of the love they modeled for us. Because they took a chance on us. Because they saw things we couldn’t see in ourselves.
I love this family! I feel forever indebted to them (even though they never make me feel that way) so being able to serve them by photographing their beautiful family was such a blessing to me!
